Dear Visitor, The Karyalaya Krama is an esoteric document. It does not follow the usual grammar rules of Sinhala language. It may be written in any language at any time in any form. However, this is an old work which carries much cultural and spiritual value in Sri Lanka. The author of the work has not been identified so far but it is believed to have been written by one or more Buddhist monks living in Sri Lanka around 4th century AD. This website provides the latest edition of that text that can be downloaded for free using PDF format. This edition is published by the Department of Buddhist Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. The file size is quite small because this edition has been prepared by scanning the original work rather than using OCR or any computer software that can recognize Sinhala characters. Sri Lanka is a country with cultural diversity. The Karyalaya Krama is an esoteric work written in classical Sinhala language. Therefore, it would be very useful if the text could be made available in Unicode format with search facility to people who are interested in this subject matter irrespective of their mother tongue. Please note that the text can be printed out in original Sinhala script. Greeting, The Department of Buddhist Studies, University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka Our country is blessed with an extraordinary history. The Sinhala language was introduced to our ancestors at the dawn of our existence by the Buddhist monks who came here from India. Nowadays it is one of the official languages of Sri Lanka and considered as one of the national languages in many countries including Canada, United States, Singapore, New Zealand and Thailand. Thus Sri Lanka is a very important place for people who are interested in languages or esoteric studies to visit. The Department of Buddhist Studies, University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka is now providing the latest edition of Karyalaya Krama which has been published by the Department. This work is prepared by scanning the original Sinhala text which was written in black ink on birch bark. The text itself has been verified and analyzed by some scholars and we found no errors anywhere within it. If you would like to use this edition for any kind of research purpose then we request that you provide your name and e-mail address as a reference for us and we will be very thankful to you if you can help us with it. But please do not use any data from this site for commercial purposes without prior permission from us. / / / / / Karyalaya Krama - Sinhala Edition - Free Download The Karyalaya Krama contains genealogies of Buddha's disciples, personal details of the Buddha, translations of Buddhist scriptures etc. It is not only the oldest work dealing with early Buddhist history but also emulates a large number of writings composed many centuries later in China, Vietnam and Tibet. Many scholars think that this historical work is originally written in Pali. However, after being translated into several Indian languages it has been widely accepted as one of best known Sinhala books. The only Sinhala book which has been translated into Pali language is Mahavamsa (Great Chronicle). cfa1e77820
